Plato
Book V 452-454
Controversy:
'Plato with Socrates and Glaucon.'
-But is not a woman by nature very different from a man?.
Certainly.
We admit that different natures ought to different things, but now we
say that these different natures should do the same things.
A noble thing is the power of the art of controversy.
Many people seem to fall into it quite against their will, and to think that
discussion which is really contention, because they cannot examine the
subject of their argument by analysing its various forms, but will urge
their contradiction of what has been said in reliance on the mere sound
of the word, dealing with one another by contention, and not by
scientific argument.-
